 January 22nd, 2017  |  10:20 AM  |   2248 views

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

Senior Magistrate Lailatul Zubaidah binti Hussain yesterday ordered a local woman to serve jail for four months after she failed to settle a fine of $4,000.Asnah binti Latip was sentenced following her guilty plea in August last year when she was given grace period to settle the fine.

The Magistrate's Court had not received the full payment up until the last day of the grace period and this led the court to issue an arrest warrant. Yesterday the defendant was produced in court
where she confirmed her inability to pay the fine. She was charged with false representation to immigration authorities for departure and arrival clearance.

Asnah handed her passport to her sister-in-law for renewal and headed for Limbang on November 27, 2015. She exited and re-entered the country using her daughter's passport that day.
DPP Yvonne Lim represented the Public Prosecutor in the case yesterday.
