Singapore Philatelic Museum (SPM) launched an exhibition "Chicken And Egg: A Fowl Tale" on Friday to celebrate year of the Rooster, the tenth animal in the zodiac cycle.

The exhibition showcases over 200 stamps from various countries with some interactive installations for children. The oldest stamp on display can be dated back to 1962, while the latest are the zodiac rooster stamps from Singapore and the Aland Islands in the Nordic.

Singapore released stamps for year of the Rooster on Jan. 6. The illustrations for the zodiac series are based on a design concept of "roundness," which signifies fullness, wealth and prosperity.

The exhibition tells why the chicken that does not migrate with changing seasons lives around the world, and it also attempt to answer the question that the chicken and the egg which came first.

General Manager of SPM Tresnawati Prihadi said the museum aims to use stamps and exciting hands-on exhibits to introduce interesting facts about chickens and eggs in different forms and cultures.

"Aside from its widely-known and enjoyed role in food, the egg is also a symbol of fertility in local cultures, whether as the bunga telur (egg flower tree) at Malay weddings, or red eggs at Chinese one-month baby celebrations," said Tresnawati Prihadi. "We hope that visitors will have a chance to learn more about local and international traditions at this exhibition."

The SPM will hold a special free session on Jan. 29, the second day of the upcoming Chinese New Year. Visitors can enjoy themselves at Family Fun Stations with a dress-up booth, museum quiz and chicken-themed craftwork. They will also be treated to a guzheng performance, and Chinese lion and dragon dances.

According the museum, the exhibition will be held until June 25, 2017.
