Illal Majdi Wan Najaah (IMAN) is one of the academic programmes at Tutong Sixth Form Centre (PTE Tutong). To initiate the IMAN programme for 2017, I-MOTIVASI (YES, I can do it!!) motivational talk was held yesterday at the Multi-Purpose Hall of Tutong Sixth Form Centre (PTET).
Around 200 Upper Sixth Year 13 students and staff members were present. Amongst the objectives of the talk were to inculcate the values of life, personality development, motivation, and self-confidence. In addition, it is mainly hoped that students can be inspired to further realise their fullest potential through self-reflections.
Muhammad Bahri bin Bohari, an education officer from Sekolah Rendah Dato Basir, Lambak Kanan gave a heart-warming account of his childhood and school experience, having been born without both hands.
His account included his early childhood, being held back to join a junior football competition in primary school, only to be supported enthusiastically by his Physical Education teacher who believed in him. He continues to play football actively today.
He recounted that every time he entered new level of schooling, people whom he first met who would later become his friends and coursemates actually have the same idea about him.
“They thought I was hiding my arms inside my shirt” he said.
He achieved admirable academic achievements in his public examinations, where he revealed that Special Education Unit, Ministry of Education, Brunei afforded him special considerations with extra exam time as he had to write with his foot.
Cg Bahri eventually completed a Bachelor of Primary Education, Universiti Brunei Darussalam in 2012, and subsequently finished his Master of International Education at University of Leicester, United Kingdom on a full government scholarship.
“There were no exceptions for me, in terms of assignments, deadlines as well as teaching practices.”
During question and answer sessions, some interesting facts he further shared were that he drove from his primary school earlier that day – not a modified car as well. He also demonstrated his clear writing and drinking water from a cup with his feet.
The event, held in collaboration between the Counselling department, headed by Cg Norhaslinda binti Haji Mohd Adnan andCg Muhd Shahnofazli bin Hj Sabli, Senior Master (CCA), concluded with the Deputy Principal (Administration), Cg Almasri bin Hj Sulaiman presenting a token of appreciation to the invited speaker.
