The Islamic Digital Library System, IDLS, that was first used by Brunei Darussalam Islamic Library, PIB, marked a historic moment for the State Mufti Department in providing its services and facilities for the public. Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti, in his speech at the Opening Ceremony of the Brunei Darussalam Islamic Library Open Day yesterday, said that PIB also has a portal that can be accessed by the public especially library users.

Yang Berhormat Pehin added that through the portal, registered library users can log on to P-I-B services such as e-fatwa, e-irshad, digital collections of talks via video, digital collections of books produced by the State Mufti Department, manuscripts, and newspaper clips. Through this IDLS Service, public needs pertaining to the library collection and services, will undoubtedly be fulfilled by accessing the facilities provided.

PIB is equipped with the infrastructure and automation system that align with the most up-to-date info-communication and technology development in providing a user-friendly, effective and systematic library service. Also attending the ceremony was Dato Paduka Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid, Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office.

The one-day PIB Open Day provided all levels of the community particularly Muslims, with the opportunity to know more about the library and the services it offers. To date, PIB has in its collection, 60,000 book titles out of 230,000 and 965 volumes of religious books and other forms of publication such as magazines, journals, and the multi-media in various knowledge disciplines. The library is targeting a collection of around 500,000 books and other materials. The materials of the existing collection at the library are rare and are not found in any other libraries, according to Awang Haji Saiful Nizam bin Haji Sulaiman, the Acting Director of Administration of the State Mufti Department.
