Study UK Exhibition Slated on Jan 24

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

The Study UK Exhibition 2017, set to be held at The Empire Hotel & Country Club from 2pm to 7pm on January 24, will showcase a cross-section of UK universities, offering a full spectrum of courses at all levels - from diploma and degree to Masters and PhD.

The exhibition is timed to help school leavers as well as in service personnel to consider their further studies options, and to identify appropriate courses and universities.

The universities, between them, offer most of the courses that Bruneians are looking for -sciences, engineering, medicine and allied health, business and finance, IT, humanities, law, art and design, as well as interdisciplinary programmes such as geomatics, design and technology, environment studies and creative industries.

HRD Services (HRDS) has been organising an education exhibition biannually for several years.

"The exhibition provides the perfect platform for -evaluating course options, and more importantly an opportunity for students to meet university staff personally to gain further insight into the course and new developments in their chosen field, as well as gather information on the university itself, student life, accommodation, etc," said Nurqamarina binti Alim Saidi of HRDS.

"Students are assured of on the spot counselling and high quality advice on admission procedures," she added.

Students who are in the process of finalising their UCAS applications will have the opportunity to discuss their course choice based on predicted results. The universities can give
a good indication of the student's eligibility which would save the student considerable time when he applies through UCAS.

The exhibition will also feature a parallel seminar session which will include career related talks that will provide an insight into specific courses and career options, as well as talks on application process and what universities are looking for in a successful UCAS medicine application.

The talks will cover a diverse range of subject areas including Geomatics and Surveying, Town Planning, Law, Medicine, Allied Health etc.

"We want students to make an informed decision about their-final course selection, rather than a practice amongst some students to 'drift' into a programme without having much understanding of what the programme entails,"
Nurqamarina added.

"The students in Brunei can have excellent career options upon graduating, but often do not do enough background work to ensure the course is right for them, and equally important to ensure good employment prospects upon graduating. The education exhibition therefore provides them with the necessary material which the students can evaluate."

All participating universities are accredited by Brunei Accreditation Council.

Students are advised to do a course search on participating universities' websites before visiting the exhibition so they can target the universities they want to talk to and obtain the relevant information in a structured manner.

This year's exhibition has attractedanumberofhigh-ranking universities. The participating universities include Cardiff, Cardiff Metropolitan, Coventry, Glasgow, Kent, Lancaster,Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool John. Moores, Loughborough University, Newcastle, Nottingham, Nottingham Trent, Portsmouth, Queen's University Belfast, Reading, Sheffield and Southampton.

Studying in the UK is now more appealing than ever - the current exchange rate between the sterling and Brunei dollar is making the United Kingdom a very attractive and affordable study destination to obtain world-recognised qualifications that would lead to long lasting careers. Finding the right career and study pathway is a lifetime decision. The exhibition should help the student with making that important decision.
