BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

Celebratory events in conjunction with the Birthday Anniversary Celebration of His Majesty the Sultan And Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, hopefully will show new approaches representing reforms and improvements that add value as well as make the celebration different or unique compared to previous celebrations.

The Minister of Home Affairs hoped the new approaches will attract the participation and involvement of all sections of the community.  Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doktor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, made the remarks while chairing the First Meeting of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's 71st Birthday Celebration National Committee yesterday.

The Minister of Home Affairs stated the reforms were meant to reflect unity, understanding, harmony, consensus, cooperation, support and to prove strong and solid motivation as well as undivided loyalty to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.  Yang Berhormat Pehin added these should be discussed together for the upcoming celebrations so that the event will portray a happier, more interesting and unique atmosphere.  However, the Minister reminded all the changes must conform to Bruneian and Islamic values.

The first meeting of the National Committee discussed the dates for the major events and organisation of the Royal Birthday celebration programmes.  Among other matters, the meeting's agenda included a post-mortem of a report on last year's celebration, the Kesyukuran ceremony, the Royal Birthday Parade Ceremony, the Get Together and Junjung Ziarah between His Majesty and the people in the four districts, the Knowledge Convention and Exhibition, the construction of arches and putting up of banners, coloured lights and other decorations. The meeting also heard reports and proposals for the events to be held throughout the celebration.  Also present was Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Penggawa Laila Bentara Istiadat Diraja Dalam Istana Pengiran Haji Alauddin bin Pengiran Paduka Tuan Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar, the Grand Chamberlain.
