The appointment of the Honourable members as District Representatives is a trust that has to carry out with full responsibility and understood deeply. It is a trust and confidence given by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
Their appointments, according to the Minister of Home Affairs, carry great roles, duties, and responsibilities in forwarding significant and strategic proposals in the interest of the country's citizens and residents, as well as assisting the government in the country's development efforts. Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doktor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong gave the reminder during a meeting this afternoon with Members of the Legislative Council who are District Representatives, from among the Penghulu Mukim and Ketua Kampung who were appointed recently.
The Minister of Home Affairs said through their appointments, the District Representatives will provide His Majesty's Government a channel for listening the people's voice and at the same time a way for the Honourable Members to act as intermediaries in conveying the government agenda and aspirations to the people so that they have a better and clearer understanding. Yang Berhormat Pehin fully believed that with the Honourable District Representatives' credibility, strong presence and good leadership, the role and tasks given to them will be carried out efficiently and effectively. Such was the expectations of not only the Penhulu Mukim, Ketua Kampung and Long House Chiefs but also of the community in general.
The meeting involved all Penghulu Mukim, Ketua Kampung and Long House Chiefs in the country. Its aim was to provide further information on the appointments of District Representatives in the Legislative Council that took effect on the 13th of this month. 10 Legislative Council Members, Representation the Districts were appointed, 5 in Brunei-Muara, 2 each in Belait and Tutong Districts and 1 in Temburong. The meeting explained and clarified the duties and responsibilities of each appointed District Representatives in the administration and management of their respective zones. Also present were Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Yusof, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry's Deputy Permanent Secretaries.
