BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

Fourty-four teams are expected to kick off at the 8th National Veteran Football Championship.

President 1 will comprise 20 teams while President 2 will have 24 teams. Last year, a total of 39 teams took part. Teams will also vie for the VFA cup. The Sumbangsih Cup will be played February 19 at Tutong Sport Complex at 4pm.

Favorites XN FT, Al Idrus, PSJD, PBDB, Stoneville FC and I Team are expected to challenge for honours again.

Newcomers are AH United Veteran, MS PDB, ASMDB FT and MVFT.

The winner of President 1 will walk away with $1,500 while the runners-up fetch $1,000 and third get $050.

The champions of President2 will receive $1,000 while the runners-up pocket $750 and third place $500.

The registration fee for each team is $600. Closing date for payment is February 28.

Veteran Football Association expressed its delight with the continued support received from veteran football players following the growing number of participating teams with each passing year.

"In the beginning, in 2010, there were only 10 teams," it said in a statement.

"This tournament is unique because it is run in all four districts.

"The teams are from Brunei-Muara, Tutong, Belait and Temburong.
"We are also grateful to the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam for its support."
