RBPF Advised Public to be Extra Careful While on Holiday

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

With the advent of the year-end school holidays, the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) has reminded the public once again to take the necessary measures to protect their possessions and property.

In a statement released yesterday, the RBPF urged members of the public to inform their respective penghulus and heads of villages before going on vacation, to prevent unwanted occurrences of break-ins.

"Doors, windows and gates should always be closed and locked before leaving the house. Do not leave items lying outside, which could attract the attention of criminals. Cash and valuables should be kept in a safe place," read the police statement.

Those going abroad for the holidays are also advised to inform their neighbours to help keep watch over the house, while exterior lighting should be left on at night as a deterrent for potential intruders.

"Parents or guardians should always monitor their children's actions," said the RBPF statement further.

"They should discourage their children from staying at late hours, loitering in groups and being involved in undesirable activities. Parents or guardians also need to pay close attention to their children's Internet activities."

Drivers are also reminded not to leave their car engines running while shopping or making ATM withdrawals, to prevent instances of car theft.

Meanwhile, the RBPF has called on members of the public to report any suspicious activities to the police hotline at 993, or at the nearest police station.
