Thirty community leaders from Baram are going for a 4-day 3-night familiarisation visit to Sabah.
Specially arranged by Petronas, the trip will see the group visiting Sabah Sarawak Gas Pipeline (SSGP) at Kimanis in Papar, Sabah.
They will also visit Sabah Ammonia Urea (Samur), Sabah Oil and Gas Terminal (SOGT) and Sabah Gas Terminal (SBGAST).
The aim of the visit is to strengthen the relationship with the longhouse community affected by the pipelines through educational activities and dissemination of relevant information on SSGP or Petronas operation in Sabah.
Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau flagged-off the group who departed on a bus from here yesterday morning.
“Getting them to know the importance of health, safety and environment in the oil and gas industry is a great concern and in return, we hope that they will be able to disseminate this valuable information to their own community in Baram,” Dennis said.
In thanking Petronas for organising the visit, Dennis hoped the Orang Ulu community whose villages are located along the SSGP would understand that Petronas presence in Baram would bring long-term benefits to them.
“I urge all the villagers to work closely with Petronas and protect all Petronas facilities to ensure smooth operation,” he reminded.
At the same time, Dennis suggested that a similar tour be organised for young people including students as motivation to study hard so as to be able to apply for a job in the oil and gas industry, especially Petronas.
Temenggong Elizabeth Deng led the group.
