BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

The National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) has called on referees to be constantly alert and to gain comprehension on the amendments of the current laws of the game.

This was emphasised by Rosdin bin Haji Abdul Aziz, member of NFABD's Executive Committee, who was the guest of honour during the opening ceremony of the FIFA MA Refereeing Course, - which began yesterday and will conclude this Thursday, at the NFABD House.

The executive committee member stressed the importance on the role of a referee in a football match whereby it can be viewed as a complement in addition to the players on the field.

"With this regard, the referees must already reach a high level especially in terms of fitness and understanding of the Laws of the Game," Rosdin said in his welcoming remarks.

"Both of these components are vitally important and are consistently linked especially fitness.

"Fitness is an essential component in joining this course when the participants are required to undergo a fitness test by the NFABD Referees' Committee before they are absorbed into the course," he
added.

A total of 23 participants comprising a top referee, senior referees' and national referees with Class 1, 2 and 3 which are based on the characteristics and requirements of the FIFA and the NFABD Referees Committee are currently taking part in the short course.

The course is facilitated by two FIFA instructors namely Ali Ahmed Al Traifi, Technical FIFA Instructor from Saudi Arabia and Ahmad Khalidi Supian, Fitness FIFA Instructor from Malaysia.

The five-day course is conducted in three sessions which covers theory, practice and fitness and the purpose is not only to improve the quality of refereeing in the country but it is the first time a detailed explanation on the Laws of the Game's latest amendments will be reviewed.

The participants were evaluated based on fitness and commitment before joining the course.

Rosdin called the chosen participants to make use of the opportunity to learn and gain knowledge which will be demonstrated by the two FIFA instructors who are fully experienced and an expert in their respective fields which serve as efforts to enhance the quality of refereeing to the top level as envisioned by NFABD Referee Department.
