Twelve-year-old Sefdeisen Seplin’s father thought that it would be nice to take his two children to a place he once fished in the waters near the Imago bridge at the city centre, since it is the school holidays.
Little did he know that the little thoughtful trip would end up tragically, finding Sefdeisen’s lifeless body washed ashore just nearby.
City police chief ACP M. Chandra disclosed that the victim had, together with his mother and younger sibling, followed their father to fish at the area, at about noon.
After playing by the shore for about 15 minutes, the 12-year-old then went to join his mother at the opposite bank. However, not long after his mother had turned away and then turned back to check on him, she found he already gone and asked her husband if he had seen their son.
When he too responded in the negative, they started to suspect that Sefdeisen had fallen off the bank and into the water, under the bridge, aware of the fact that the boy could not swim.
“The victim’s father then tried to search for his son in the surrounding area but to no avail and reported the incident to the police about 1.49pm and the Fire and Rescue Department.
“The search for the victim was immediately launched, with the help of the public,” said Chandra, adding that the victim was finally found at 2.42pm in the waters under the Imago bridge, already lifeless.
The Fire and Rescue Department disclosed that the water at the said area was about 2.5 to three metres deep.
