The 10th International Day of Persons with Disabilities (PWD) celebration ended on a high note yesterday, highlighting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and Incheon Strategy to 'Make the Right Real' for Persons with Disabilities in the Asia Pacific region.
The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof was the guest of honour at the closing ceremony.
Among the resolutions adopted during the one-day open dialogue were for PWD associations to be more active in meeting the needs of PWD and for new buildings to provide PWDfriendly infrastructure (PWD friendly concept) as advised by the Authority for Building Control and Construction Industry (ABCi).
The resolution was delivered by Noryani binti Haji Abdul Rani, Assistant Director Department of Community Development.
The forum also saw a discussion on PWD categories to have general definition in accordance with the national policy, and the important roles of PWD, families and associations in contributing towards the implementation of CRPD with the support of government and non-government agencies and the public.
Also included in the resolutions were the interpreting of CRPD in the language used and format that can be understood by a PWD individual, families and society, as well as strengthening the mechanism communication in enhancing the involvement of PWD in the social and economic fields; workshops and programmes to strengthen PWD, families, and associations in upholding the rights of PWD.
