BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

Marking yet another milestone for the governing body for football in the Sultanate, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, President of the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam

(NFABD), received the AFC President Recognition Award for Grassroots Football 2016 in the Aspiring category, at a grand ceremony held in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates on Thursday.

It is the second consecutive time the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam has received the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) accolade. The first time was at the AFC's Annual Awards extravaganza that was held in Gurgaon, near New Delhi, India in December last year.

"I personally feel very happy with the award and this shows NFABD's commitment towards grassroots development of football towards a better future for the game in Brunei Darussalam," His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah said in an interview

"This recognition from AFC shows how hard the NFABD's staff work, besides it shows their commitment and team work. I hope this hard work and team work will continue in order for NFABD to progress further and achieve better results in football," he added.

Meanwhile, AFC President Recognition Awards for Grassroots Football in the Inspiring category went to Football Federation Australia (FFA), while the Philippines Football Federation (PFF) won the Developing category.

Throughout the year, the FFA organised a variety of programmes under their comprehensive strategic development, while the PFF's multiple activities involved participants from all over the country and benefitted from the help of other regional football associations as well as the establishment of excellent partnerships with government agencies and ministries for support.

The NFABD, meanwhile, ran regular technical and promotional activities while maintaining several areas of cooperation with both governmental and non-governmental partners.

The nominations for the award are based on a points system which takes into account several criteria such as the structure and management of grassroots football as well as the philosophy and policy of member associations.

In addition, the member associations' grassroots partnerships with various external organisations are also assessed, as are technical programmes such as courses, workshops and talent identification.

Other criteria include exchange programmes such Is those with schools, administrative sub-regional football associations, communities and clubs as well as grassroots activities, for example promotional, educational and social responsibility events.
