APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) And ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC)

Design & Technology Building, BEDB

Mr Soon Loo & Ms Hafimi Abdul Haadii representing ABAC Brunei and Ms Lisa Dato Ibrahim and Ms Yanty Dato Rahman representing ASEAN-BAC held a dialogue session this evening with Brunei businesses, which was organised by DARE.

The dialogue session was designed to provide information and outreach to Brunei Businesses on APEC and ASEAN and the roles of ABAC and ASEAN-BAC within these regions.

The representatives of ABAC Brunei & ASEAN-BAC welcomed private sector participation and invited Brunei businesses to highlight relevant issues, proposed remedies and insights related to doing business in the 2 regions.

Among the initiatives by ABAC includes supporting MSMEs development as an important means to achieve quality growth and reinforce the benefits of globalization, particularly as MSMEs are the drivers of entrepreneurship and employment. ABAC also believes in creating pathways to assisting MSMEs through programmes such as the Cross Border E-Commerce Training (CBET) held in Brunei in 2015 which continues to be implemented across Asia Pacific. Progressive initiatives on inclusive financing are also championed by ABAC particularly in developing Secured transactions systems, Credit information systems, Accounts receivable financing, Trade and supply chain finance and financial inclusion. ABAC is also facilitating financial integration and cross-border finance for governments in Asia Pacific including Brunei for the Financial Infrastructure Development Network (FIDN).

The ASEAN-BAC representatives also encouraged Brunei businesses to participate in their annual activities such as the ASEAN Business & Investment Summit (ABIS) and the ASEAN Business Awards (ABA). Participation in these activities would provide Brunei businesses with exposure and recognition within the ASEAN region.
