KUALA LUMPUR,MALAYSIA:  With Christmas around the corner, malls are experiencing “full houses” as people make a dash for gifts.

Pavilion KL retail chief executive officer Joyce Yap said the peak season was usually a fortnight before Christmas.

“Pavilion’s carpark has been full since last week and the mall is crowded with shoppers, even at night,” she said.

“We have a snow machine at the entrance to give shoppers the White Christmas feeling,” she said.

Main Place mall management director Woo May Foong said the mall in USJ21 was also experiencing big crowds.

“It will be especially crowded this week,” she said.

“Last week we had good sales and I expect it to get even better,” Woo said, adding that the festive air was evident at the mall.

Atria Shopping Gallery senior manager Catherine Chin said the mall had been bustling with events and activities with families staying back even longer.

“Aside from the usual busy crowd of people shopping for their Christmas decorations or presents, Atria has been organising events like a meet-and-greet with Barbie and a Hot Wheels exhibition,’’ she said.

Sam Ooi, 42, who was shopping at Pavilion with his wife and his year-old child, said he was looking for trinkets to decorate his Christmas tree.

“Previously, I have been only decorating the tree with traditional ornaments such as lights and glass balls,” he said.

“But this year, I am going to add some toys to it for my son as this will be his first Christmas tree experience,” he added.

Another shopper, Bianca Purkis, 27, said it gave her a sense of satisfaction when “tireless shopping makes my children happy”.

“It always pays off. It is great to get others in the family to come in and enjoy the fun too.
