National Volleyball Competition To Begin Sunday

The 4th National Volleyball Competition by Minister of Education and Sports will be held from Nov 27 to Dec 3 at the Buengkhagnong Indoor Stadium in Vientiane Capital.

 

The competition will draw 16 teams, 11 of which are men’s and six of which are women’s teams, competing in two groups A and B, said the Vice President of the Lao National Volleyball Federation, Mr Soulineth Xayadeth at a press conference held on November 24.

 

He said the competition aims to welcome the coming National Day and celebrate the 96th anniversary of Kaysone Phomvihane’s birthday.

 

The is also to promote the playing of volleyball for all levels of competition in the country, with a focus on enhancing the competitiveness of coaches and athletes and upgrading the Lao National Volleyball Federation’s coaches’ knowledge in organizing competitions.           

 

The winning teams will be awarded a trophy and 12 million kip in cash (about US$1,450).  The first runner-ups will be awarded 8 million kip and the second runner-ups will be awarded 5 million kip.

 

The competition is being financially supported by the Lao Brewery Company at a cost of 160 million kip (almost US$19,500).

 

Witnesses of the press conference were Head of High Sports Department, Ministry of Education and Sports, Mr Sengphone Phon-Amad and the CSR and Communications Director of the Lao Brewery Company, Mr Bounkanh Kounlabouth.
