The Department of Electrical Services, DES and the Department of Water Services, DWS stressed that the national replacement programme to the Unified Smart Metering System, USMS is mandatory and need to be implemented.
The Acting Director of DES said this is due to the need to address the TID Rollover transition process.
If this is not implemented, it will lead to power cut.
Awang Ahmad Ridza bin Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Rahman said DES is striving to provide continuous and secure electricity supply to the public.
In this regard, the public is welcomed to make an appointment to change their prepaid meter to the USMS as soon as possible to avoid any issues that may arise on the 24th of November 2024.
It is also stressed that there is no change to the tariff for water and electricity before and after changing to the USMS since it was introduced in October 2022.
Ingenieur Awang Haji Mohamad bin Haji Tuah, Acting Director of Department of Water Services said the public will still be able to install the USMS even though they still have water bill arrears.
After the smart meter is installed, said arrears will be included in the customer's account, and this will take between 2 to 4 weeks after the meter is installed.
The customer then will receive a SMS on the updated water bill arrear.
