Confiscation of Customs Contrabands

The public are advised to always comply with the country's law and avoid carrying out smuggling activities or bringing in and out customs contraband. The reminder was issued by the Royal Customs and Excise Department, RCED following the Law Enforcement Division's operation which successfully made arrests for Customs offences in the Kampung Tanjong Bunut, Kampung Junjungan and Kampung Sungai Kebun areas, recently.
In the first operation carried out on 29th March in the Kampung Tanjong Bunut area, a 38-year-old Indian man was arrested for possessing over 16,900 packets and 871 sticks of fireworks of various brands; and 44,100 packets of firecrackers of various brands.
The second operation conducted in Kampung Junjungan on 30th March saw a 38-year-old local man arrested for possessing 101 packets and 175 fireworks of various brands; and 7 boxes and 180 firecrackers of various brands.
Meanwhile, a 43-year-old local woman was arrested during the third operation conducted on 1st April in the Kampung Sungai Kebun area, for possessing 131 cartons and 214 packets of cigarettes of various brands; 1 box, 14 packets and 97 sticks of firecrackers of various brands; Cash amounting $3,688 believed to be proceeds from the sale of customs contraband; and 1 mobile phone believed to be used for the activity involved.
All items were confiscated and the individuals were taken to the RCED Law Enforcement Office for further investigation.
