Around 5,000 Joins `Thank You Teacher Run'

Over 5,000 runners participated in larian Terima Kasih Cikgu' (Thank You Teacher Run) organised by Co-Curriculum Education Department under the Ministry of Education (MoE) at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien in the capital yesterday.

 

The guest of honour at the event was Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, the Minister of Education, who later officiated the flag-off of the two categories.

 


The run commenced with an aerobic warm-up session led by a physical unit officer of the Co-Curriculum Education Department and students from the Sports School, followed by the flag-off of each of the two
categories - the 4km Fun Run male category and 3.5km Fun Run female category.

 


The run was held as part of the recent Teacher's Day celebrations, with the aim to raise awareness on the importance of upholding a healthy lifestyle through recreational activities as well as to strengthen ties among the officers, teachers, staff members and family members.

 

The activity also assisted in MoE's ongoing effort to minimise obesity especially among members of MoE.

 

In addition, the run also aimed to provide an opportunity to members of the MoE and public to donate to the Children's Cancer Foundation (YASKA) and Ikhlas Fund' (Special Education Unit).
A total of 9,467 people registered for the run.

 

The event was also enlivened with lucky draws offering over 100 prizes.

 

The event also saw the presentation of contributions to YASKA with a total amount of $12,310 and to the Ikhlas Fund with a total amount of $10,000.

 


Also in attendance were Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, Deputy Minister of Education; Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs; permanent secretaries, deputy permanent secretaries, director-general of education, directors, deputy directors, assistant directors, principals, senior officials, deputy principals, officers and staff members of MoE and the Ministry of Religious Affairs, teachers, students and members of the public.
