The vintage doll - which has been branded the "creepiest thing ever" by spooky passersby - is up for grabs for £90 at St Columbia's Hospice charity shop in Morningside, Edinburgh

A charity shop has been forced to put an 'I am not creepy' sign on a doll in the front window - after locals said it was 'haunted' and 'freaking them out'.

The vintage doll is on sale for £90 at St. Columba's Hospice shop in Morningside, Edinburgh. But it went viral for its eerily lifelike appearance - with many locals claiming it is the "creepiest thing ever". One claimed it "comes to life at night' with others saying the dolls eyes ''follow everyone that walks passed''.

The figure is believed to be a discontinued creation from lifelike doll-makers Ashton Drake Galleries - whose "So Truly Real" dolls can fetch up to £200. Luckily, shop manager Simone Varga saw the funny side of things - adding a sign to the doll, which reads, "I am a Julie Fischer doll from Ashton Galleries - I am not creepy."

Simone said: "We’ve had the doll about three to four weeks – but because we get lots of old dolls, I didn’t really think anything of it! I thought it was weird that it had a nappy on it, but otherwise, I wasn’t too bothered by it.

"I saw it last night on Facebook and I saw someone had called it a creepy doll. When I saw the photo, I immediately knew it was our shop, and I read some of the comments. After I read some of the comments, they were calling her a creepy doll – and I thought that it’s not creepy, so I put up a sign!"

Simone can understand why the doll has been branded unsettling - but says she still hopes she can find a good home for it. "I think there’s something about the eyes – they look like human eyes to me," said Simone. "I think they were trying to make it look like a real child. I haven’t had any interest at the moment. We’ve had comments from people saying it’s creepy, but not from anybody wanting to purchase it. But I would like her to find a new home – I think she would look lovely sitting on someone’s bed!"

Social media users have been posted hilarious comments about the doll. One said: ''Doll For Sale. Any unsolved murders in Morningside? There’s your culprit." Another said: ''Surely no one is going to have that horror in their home?'' One posted: ''Thanks for that - not sure I'll be sleeping tonight.' One added: ''Oh my days, avoid eye contact in case it rises from the chair.''
