Nation’s Leaders Extend CNY Wishes In Mandarin

KUALA LUMPUR
In a show of harmony and unity, the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Ministers extended their Chinese New Year wishes in Mandarin during a Cabinet luncheon and yee sang tossing event.
In a video, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim wished everyone “Happy New Year, Happy New Year, Good New Year,” while his deputy Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said, “I wish you increased wealth. I’m a Malay, you are Chinese, but we are all Malaysians,” both in Mandarin.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, and Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Hasan also extended their Chinese New Year wishes in Mandarin.
The Cabinet luncheon was hosted by Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

Meanwhile, PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said he hopes this Lunar New Year’s festival will strengthen the bonds of unity among Malaysians of all backgrounds.
“The diversity of ethnicities is celebrated as a sign of God’s magnificence and is part of nature in the creation of humanity. Islam, which is the guiding principle of PAS, guarantees justice, peace, and well-being for all races and religions in this country,” he said in a statement yesterday.
“For those returning to their hometowns to celebrate this occasion with family, I pray for your safe journey,” he said.
