Today, news and rumours that are not known to be authentic are easily spread through the fingertips. Muslims should always be cautious and protect themselves from spreading slander and practicing Tabayyun, which is the culture of checking before spreading. Hence, if good news come from people who speak the truth, then accept it as a good reminder. But if bad news come from a person with bad morals, be cautious with his conversation. The matter was among the contents of Friday Sermon, titled 'Fitnah Di Hujung Jari' or Slander at the fingertips.
The prayer leader said that Imam Al Ghazali Rahimahullah in his book titled "Ihya Ulumuddin" mentioned six things that should be held by a person to avoid slander namely, first, do not allow what he says, as the person who brings slander is Fasiq or evil and the person who is Fasiq is not accepted as a witness, Second, prevent from slander and advise him not to repeat it, Third, he should be angry with the slanderer for Allah SWT, Fourth, do not harbour negative prejudices against the person being slandered, Fifth, do not seek for additional information and Sixth, do not participate in slandering and do not tell the slandered person that someone has slandered him as he will also become a slanderer.
