High Court Grants Zahid Discharge Not Amounting To Acquittal In YAB Case

JUNAID IBRAHIMThe High Court here has granted a a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) to Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for the Yayasan Akalbudi graft case.

In handing down the ruling on Monday (Sept 4), Justice Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah said that this is because the MACC is still investigating the case after Zahid made representations.

He said that representation consisted of hundreds of pages and is justifiable for further examination.

Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Datuk Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar listed 11 reasons for it; these include ensuring that no miscarriage of justice is committed and to make way for more comprehensive investigations by the authorities.

However, Ahmad Zahid’s counsel Datuk Hisyam Teh Poh Teik argued for a full discharge instead.

He argued that the deputy prime minister should be granted with a discharge amounting to an acquittal (DAA).

The court is now standing down as Justice Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah decides on the matter.
