His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam took part in the Royal Birthday Cycling Recreation 2023 around Bandar Seri Begawan.
The event - held in conjunction with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's 77th birthday celebration - began and ended at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar 'Ali Saifuddien.
Accompanying His Majesty were His Majesty's sons and brother; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office; His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik; and His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah.
Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, and Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Minister of Home Affairs. Shortly after arriving, His Majesty signed a framed jersey specially commissioned for the Royal Birthday Cycling Recreation 2023.
The cycling covered a 10.3 kilometre-route, passing through main roads such as Jalan Pretty, Jalan Elizabeth 2, Jalan Stoney, and Jalan Kumbang Pasang.
His Majesty then watched a cycle past by 77 cyclists who took part in the 77-kilometre event. His Majesty also watched a self-defence performance performed by 335 athletes under the Youth and Sports Department Scheme, as well as clubs under the Karate, Kempo, Kendo, Kickboxing, Taekwando and Pencak Silat associations.
The Royal Birthday Cycling Recreation fostered a sports culture and further strengthen the communities' solidarity towards a healthy lifestyle.
