BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

A local man was yesterday sentenced to three years imprisonment by the Bandar Magistrate's Court for stealing a pair of 'Jong Sarat' to earn drug money.

Adisukri bin Haji Sulaiman, 41, went to Ridah Handikraft booth at Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Shopping Complex at 2.50pm on October 23, 2016 and stole a pair of 'Jong Sarat' when the attendant was busy.

He then sold the stolen items to a buyer at Tamu Kianggeh for $20.

The defendant admitted that he needed the money to buy drugs when questioned by Senior Magistrate Haji Nabil Daraina bin Pehin Dato Ustaz Haji Badaruddin.

Prosecutor Md Qamarul Affyian bin Abdul Rahman informed the court that the defendant has six previous convictions of theft and theft in a dwelling as well as a previous drugs conviction which dates back as far as 1999.

The court found that the defendant was not remorseful, and passed a harsher punishment seeing the defendant's notorious record.
