CEO of PDS Abbatoir Receive Visit Prison Officials, PKSP

 October 28th, 2016  |  08:39 AM  |   1666 views

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

The Counselling and Supervision Services Unit (PKSP) along with officials from the Vocational and Training Skills Unit of the Prisons Department made a courtesy visit to CEO of PDS Abattoir Sdn Bhd, PM Dato Haji Sharifuddin bin Pengiran Haji Metali at his residence in Jalan Bedil, Berakas yesterday.

Led by Senior Prisons Counselling Officer Pengiran Omar bin Pengiran Haji Othman, the visit served to show appreciation to PDS Abbatoir for its major contribution to ensure the smooth running of the programmes and projects for former prison inmates.

The visit also aimed to strengthen ties between PDS and PKSP officials.

The officials were also taken on a tour of the PDS Abbatoir Gallery where PM Dato Haji Sharifuddin displays his mini turtle museum's exhibits that he has collected from several parts of the world.

PM Dato Haji Sharifuddin expressed his appreciation for the visit and he hoped that the collaboration between PDS Abbatoir and PKSP will grow stronger.

PKSP is responsible for the after-care programme for former inmates, who upon their release are given counselling and the opportunity to participate in the rehabilitation programme at the prison premises.

Former inmates who register voluntarily under the six-month programme are trained to do general work such as grass-cutting, car washing and carpentry.

They receive cash incentives to provide them with motivation and confidence to change their lives for their betterment.

The unit also looks after the internship of former inmates. Currently 13 former inmates are on internship at several mosques in the country where they do general cleaning as well as have the opportunity to perform the
Azan and do extra jobs tor a reasonable pay.

One of the projects the unit is also looking after is the Sumbangsih Mulia Car Wash whose site was a personal contribution of Pehin Kapitan Lela Diraja Dato Paduka Goh King Chin to help former inmates to change their lives and be accepted back in the community.

Contributions to help ensure the smooth running of PKSP have been encouraging over the years. Apart from PDS Abbatoir, several other private companies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and individuals have made contributions.

It is hoped that more people will come forward to give their support towards the good cause.
