BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

The newly launched MC Biotech Sdn Bhd, located at the Bio-Innovation corridor in Kampong Tungku, is set to provide an avenue of learning new skills for 25 new local recruits.

Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Awang Haji Mohammad Yasmin bin Haji Umar, the Minister of Energy and Industry at the Prime Minister's Office, who was the guest of honour at the company's launching ceremony yesterday, stressed the importance of companies in Brunei increasing local employment and expressed hope for MC Biotech Sdn Bhd to one day achieve 100 per cent local employment.

Nor Hafizah binti Jumat, who will officially be an employee of the company starting November once her employment contract with the government ends, is looking forward to working with the foreign direct investment (FDI) company. She has actually worked with MC Biotech Sdn Bhd since 2013 seconded by a government agency.

"I like working here at MC Biotech Sdn Bhd The environment here is harmonious and it takes pride in teamwork," she said. "I am gaining new experiences in the lab with the Japanese expert in facilitating and observing microalgae. This is the first company in Brunei to cultivate microalgae to produce natural Astaxanthin, so it's an ideal place to learn new skills and technology."

Meanwhile, Azlimi bin Gillin, a graduate from the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE), was attached to Mc Biotech in April this year and managed to be hired after impressing the company.

The 21-year-old expressed his gratitude saying, "I managed to get employed after the attachment. I hope to do my best and work hard for the future."

He added that the company will serve as a good learning environment promoting good teamwork-.
