Sports School Students Treated to Friendly With Japanese Shuttlers

Students of the Sports School under the Department of Co-Curriculum Education (DCCE) yesterday had the opportunity to engage in friendly matches with a team of top Japanese national-level badminton players at the school's multipurpose hall.

 


Among the top Japanese players were Sho Sasaki (World Rank Singles 24), Yu Igarashi (World Rank Singles 302), Kenya Mitsuhashi (World Rank Singles 1121 and World Rank Doubles 95), Miyuki Kato (World Rank Doubles 276) and Miki Kishihara (World Rank Doubles 276).

 


The event began with a group photo and an introduction to the Japan team. A gift exchange was then carried out between Acting Principal of Sports School Umi Kalthum binti Haji Abdul Karim and Uematsu Yoshinori, Manager of the Japan National Team, representing the Japan Badminton Association.

 


The Japanese Team played friendly singles and doubles games with students and teachers of the school.

 


The Japanese national badminton team's visit to the Sports School was part of their programme for the Brunei-Japan Badminton Exchange 2016 to commemorate His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuanof Brunei Darussalam's 70th birthday celebration.
