Burger King Brunei was recently named as the `Healthier Choice Initiative Partner' by the Health Promotion Centre, which reflects the popular eatery's commitment towards promoting a healthy diet among local patrons.

The announcement was made yesterday during the official launching of a new Burger King restaurant at the Giant Hypermarket Tasik Rimba, which is the chain's sixth outlet in Brunei.

Present at the ribbon-cutting ceremony was Saifulizam Zamhor, the Operations Manager of Sinofood Express, the Bruneian franchisee of Burger King; and Pengiran Hasim bin Pengiran Jaya, the Sinofood Director.

According to Saifulizam, several nutritionally-balanced items have already been introduced into the menu, which enables customers to enjoy healthy options to the existing high-calorie meals.

The Healthier Choice Initiative is part of a balanced diet programme conducted by the Health Promotion Centre under the Ministry of Health, which aims to increase public awareness on making smart and informed choices when dining out.

Value meals consist of less than 500 kcal can be considered as the healthier options, and among the low-calorie items on offer at Burger King are the Single Cheese Burger, Texas Beef, the Whopper Jr, Tempura Six Pieces and the King Chicken or Beef Salad.

A seventh outlet is expected to open later in the year, with more healthy selections on the menu.
