BRUNEI MUARA

A reception in conjunction with the 17th joint naval exercise codenamed 'Helang Laut' between navies of Brunei Darussalam and Indonesia was held on Friday night onboard the Indonesian warship KRI Usman Harun-359 at Muara Naval Base.

The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Defence, First Admiral (Rtd) Data Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit and spouse, and Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah and spouse. Also present at the event was the Ambassador of Indonesia to Brunei Darussalam, Nurul Qomar.

Commanding Officer of KRI Usman Harun-359, Captain Alan Dahlan, in his welcoming speech extended gratitude on behalf of the Indonesian contingent to Royal Brunei Navy for allocating time to hold the reception cocktail party.

"We have performed all activities during the harbour phase and the sea phase. Best efforts have been shown by all ships," he said, adding that the purpose of the event was to let everyone make more friends, especially in a neighbouring country with many similarities and customs.

He also expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Indonesian Defence Attaché and staff at the Embassy of Indonesia in Brunei Darussalam for facilitating the exercise.

The event was enlivened by dance performances.
