One woman feels 'resentful' about Mother's Day because she's the only one without children in her family – so they expect her to to everything for them while they have the day off
Mother's Day is a day to celebrate all the mums and mother figures in our lives.
Families celebrate in various different ways. Some people treat their mums to breakfast in bed, buy them gifts, or take them out for dinner. For others, a simple phone call or card might do the trick.
One woman feels resentful every Mother's Day, because her family expect her to do everything for them – because she's the only one without kids of her own.
Explaining why she's "resentful" of the day, she took to Reddit to say: "I'm resentful because as the only woman in my family with no children, it becomes my responsibility to do everything for everyone.
She added: "I am hosting Mother's Day. I have been told it's the only thing that makes sense. So here we are."
For this Mother's Day she is cooking a roast dinner for 10 people, and has to "wash up everything" without getting any help, as well as serve everyone dessert and drinks. She added: "Nobody will help or offer to help because they are either a mother and it's their day off, or they're a man and the men in my family apparently don't think it's a man's job to help out."
The woman, who is a full time carer for both her parents, always gets told: "Well you get a day off every day because you don't have children".
She added: "I too am responsible for the upkeep of two other humans but I never get a day off or any gifts. My sister on the other hand shares 50/50 custody with the father of her children."
According to the woman, it has become an "expectation" that she hosts Mother's Day every year. She added: "I don't want to upset anyone just because I think the idea of Mother's Day is dumb."
Many fellow forum users thought she shouldn't be expected to be the only one to make an effort. One person commented: "Well that's just stupid! Mother's Day should be organised by the dads and children when old enough. Father's Day the reverse."
Others said that she should just say no, however, the woman explained: "I get that 100%, I'm just stuck in a situation where there's no really anyone else that can do it in my family."
