Mum Slams Sister-In-Law For Letting Toddler Look 'Unkempt' As She Wore Pyjamas To Cafe

The mum was furious when she found out her daughter had been taken to a cafe while in her pyjamas - as she said she couldn't believe she was 'taken out looking unkempt'

Let's face it, if it was socially acceptable, most of us would love to spend all day in our comfortable and cosy pyjamas - even in the office.

But one mum has been left furious after she found out her sister-in-law had taken her daughter out to a cafe without changing her out of her pyjamas and into everyday clothes - as she claimed it made her little one look "unkempt".

The mum said her two-year-old daughter often spends one day of the week with her aunt, but on this particular occasion, she had spent the night before with her grandma, so her aunt had picked her up without seeing the girl's mum.

'I refused to give a pregnant woman my seat on the bus - I got there first'

After spending the day at a cafe, the girl's aunt posted a picture of them together on social media - where the mum could clearly see her daughter was still wearing the pyjamas she'd gone to her grandma's with the night before.

The mum was "so angry" about the situation that she confronted her sister-in-law, who claimed she didn't know the girl was in her pyjamas because she had a coat on when she picked her up.

In a post on Mumsnet, the mum fumed: "My daughter normally spends one day of the week with SIL [my sister-in-law]. The night before she had spent at my mum's, who didn't have any clothes for her to get her dressed in the morning. She knew SIL had some as she checked with her beforehand.

"Later in the day, SIL posted a picture of my daughter in a coffee shop. My daughter was in her PJs. I asked SIL why she was still in her PJs and she said she didn't know she wasn't dressed when she picked her up, as she already had her coat on and they went out straight away.

"I asked my mum what happened during pick-up. She apologised for not getting my daughter dressed in the morning, she didn't have any spare clothes but knew SIL did so thought she would get my daughter ready before taking her out.

"So either my mum is lying or SIL is."

The mum went on to say that her sister-in-law should have been able to see what the girl was wearing despite her coat, and didn't accept her excuse for not dressing the toddler.

She added: "Besides the point, you can tell what a child is wearing underneath their coat. My daughter's coat goes to just above her thighs. SIL would have been able to see her pyjama bottoms.

"I mentioned this to my husband, who said he'd speak to SIL, but I don't think he has yet otherwise he would have informed me of the outcome of her conversation.

"I've also now made a point of getting my daughter fully dressed before she goes to SIL. My husband normally drops her off first thing, before she's even had breakfast, so she isn't dressed as SIL will dress her before going out (well I thought so anyway).

"This happened a week ago, but I can't get it off my mind. I don't know if I should just let it go, but it just makes me so angry that my poor baby was taken out looking unkempt."

But commenters on the post told the mum that what her daughter was wearing didn't matter, as long as she was warm enough - and said it wasn't worth risking her sister-in-law pulling all childminding offers.

One person said: "A baby doesn't care. It's a one-off. Is it worth a row? I am assuming this childcare is helpful to you? If so, I would not be rocking the boat."

While another added: "Lots of kids' pyjama bottoms could look like kids' daytime clothing. It sounds like SIL assumed she was ready since she had her coat on. It's not a big deal really. You sound lucky to have people around to look after your daughter and take her out, and some confusion over her bottoms is not a big deal."
