Locals Fined for Possession, Smuggling Contraband

Two local men were ordered by the Magistrate's Court to settle hefty fines for possession of smuggled cigarettes and liquor.

 


Samrin bin Punggut, 41, received a fine of $5,000 for possession of 14 cartons and 30 packets of smuggled cigarettes, while Muhamad Safwan bin Jahidin, 22, was fined $10,000 for possessing 31 cartons and 34 packets of smuggled cigarettes and a bottle of smuggled liquor.

 


Customs preventive officers conducted an inspection at Muhamad Safwan's house in Wasai Limuru Barat, RPN Tanah Jambu at 10.45am on September 29, 2016.

 


Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid presided over the case.
