One sister is standing her ground by refusing to cancel her holiday plans for her sister's last minute wedding, as she only arranged it a month prior to the big day - others agree with her

When it comes to planning the perfect wedding, each couple will have their own vision for the big day that celebrates their love and personalities.

Whether you decide to throw a lavish do that takes months or even years to plan, or opt for a low-key occasion with just a handful of important guests, the dream scenario is for your friends and family to support you in whichever wedding style you choose.

Sadly, that doesn't always go to plan, as one bride found out when her sister refused to cancel her holiday plans to come to her last-minute surprise wedding. The siblings' relationship is on the rocks amidst the nuptial nightmare, as the sister is reluctant to change her travel plans to suit the bride-to-be.

Taking to Reddit to ask for advice, the bride's sister, who remains anonymous, explained: "My sister and her fiancé plan on getting married in a couple of weeks. That's great. He makes her happy. They sprung this on us about a month ago. They don't want a big production so it will be a small wedding and reception. Maybe 40 people all told."

With just a month to plan the big day, the couple were hopeful that all their nearest and dearest could make the date work, but the sister already has plans, as she continued: "I have spring break in a couple of weeks. I have been planning my trip since last fall. I told her I could not attend. She asked why. I said I was going to be on vacation that week."

Devastated by the decision, the bride slammed her sister for prioritising the trip, and even got their parents involved in the sibling spat.

"She thinks I'm being an a**hole for thinking my vacation is more important than her wedding. She got our parents involved. So I told them I would cut my vacation short to attend the wedding if she paid for my theatre [sic] tickets I'm not going to use and any cancellation or rebooking fees," she explained.

"They said that they would pay using some of the money they were planning to give her for the wedding. She said I was being petty taking their money. So I said f***k it and I'm not changing my plans."

After pleading for advice on whether the was in the wrong for refusing to cancel her plans, hundreds of people flocked to the comments section on the post to share their hot take.

Many sided with the sister and pointed out that a month timeframe was too short notice, as one said of the bride: "She's making lots of demands for something that's supposed to be not a big production."

Another added: "A short-notice wedding is the same as a long-distance wedding - inconvenient for people and you can't expect everybody to be free at short notice, the same way you can't expect everybody to be free/want/afford to travel.

"If you being there was important to her she should have liaised with you about the date. People getting married need to understand everybody else's lives don't stop just because they are getting married."

A third commenter wrote: "I had a small wedding too and we had to reschedule last minute. I reached out to the people I really wanted to be there to see if they had any plans that couldn't be canceled [sic]. My sister had a trip she couldn't reschedule so I picked another date. People send save the dates for a reason; if it's last minute it’s not on the guests to lose money or miss out on long term plans to accommodate."
