Brunei Delegation Departs to Singapore for SBYLEP

A Bruneian delegation comprising 15 youths departed yesterday to represent the country at the Singapore-Brunei Youth Leadership Exchange Programme (SBYLEP) which will run from October 17-20 in Singapore.
Dato Paduka Dr Haji Affendy bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, was at the Brunei International Airport to bid farewell to the delegation.
The delegation is led by Pengiran Haji Mohd Asran bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud, Acting Assistant Director of Research, Development and International Affairs at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
Pengiran Haji Mohd Asran, during an interview with the Media, emphasised the importance of the programme as it will provide excellent experiences that will lead to good ideas.
Prior to leaving the country, the participants recently met with Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.
The minister encouraged the participants to utilise the programme fully through constructive and critical interaction as well as to take home the best practices. The meeting was held at the At-Taqwa Conference Room of the ministry.
It is noted that participants were carefully selected and will be able to fully benefit from the programme.
The SBYLEP has been held alternately between the two countries since 2014. This SBYLEP in Singapore is the third installation. Brunei is set to host the final SBYLEP next year.
The Ministry of. Culture, Youth and Sports stated that Brunei and Singapore have very close bilateral relations. The idea of the programme was conceived by the two countries to develop the capability of youth leaders.
This year's programme carries the theme, 'Sustainable development: Building Inclusive and Resilient Cities'.
The programme will focus on values, self-esteem, exposure to cosmopolitan scenarios, inculcating healthy social relationships and encouraging learning.
