JAKARTA

MRT Jakarta announced on Tuesday that they would extend the operational hours by one hour from 11 p.m. to 12 a.m. effective immediately. Operational hours start at 5 a.m. on weekdays and at 6 a.m. on weekends.

In a press release, city-owned transportation company PT MRT Jakarta said the extension was part of the Jakarta Transportation Agency’s instruction in response to the lowest level of public activity restrictions (PPKM) measures set by the government until Nov. 21.

“While in the station and on the train, commuters must still follow the prevailing COVID-19 protocols, including wearing the appropriate face coverings and maintaining distance from other passengers,” the company said.

Train scheduling remains the same with 10 minutes between trains except during rush hour from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays where there is only a 5-minute wait time between trains.

But, MRT Jakarta emphasized that the operating hours dictated when the last train was set to arrive at the last station, not when the last train departed. As of now, the last train from the Hotel Indonesia (HI) traffic circle station departs at 11:31 p.m. and from Lebak Bulus station at 11:12 p.m.

In October of this year, MRT Jakarta recorded average passenger numbers of nearly 72,200 per day. While this is still lower than the 90,000 daily average reached before the pandemic, the number eclipses that of its own target of 40,000.

Currently, the company is still in the middle of construction for the MRT Phase 2A project, which will extend the current line northward from the existing HI traffic circle station all the way to Kota Tua in North Jakarta.
