GE15: Anwar Claims Simple Majority, But Mum On Party Pakatan Is Cooperating With

PETALING JAYA

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has claimed that Pakatan Harapan has enough seats to form the next government.

However, Anwar stopped short at revealing who Pakatan would cooperate with, as it only had 75 seats as of Sunday (Nov 20).

"We, Pakatan, have formed the biggest bloc in the parliament with Muda and also we have to recognise the fact that no party has obtained a simple majority," he said.

"We therefore have conducted a series of meetings and negotiations and as a result, I wish to inform you that as the majority bloc, we have managed to get support of MPs to form the government with a simple majority.

"Subject to, of course, the normal process, which is to submit to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

"We have all the documents ready," said Anwar in a press conference at a hotel in Subang early Sunday (Nov 20).

"I am only able to speak on behalf of Pakatan, but subsequent issues relating to other parties will be done after we submit (our letter) to the King," said Anwar.

Anwar added that it was not proper to reveal if the party Pakatan could potentially form an alliance with is a national or regional party and said that he would send a letter to the King,

"I'm not absolutely certain if we have the numbers. Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin can claim to do so, pending an election in Padang Serai. We will only be able to inform you when we secure an audience with the King," said Anwar.

He also said it was impossible that Perikatan Nasional had secured a majority.

"It cannot be. It's impossible to claim to do so, because we have it in writing and we will inform the palace accordingly," added Anwar.

Anwar also refused to comment on the possibility that Barisan had approached Perikatan to form the next government.

"I'm not entertaining rumours, I'm discussing facts. Rumours, you can ask Muhyiddin," added Anwar.

Anwar reiterated that Pakatan has a strong view against corruption and a commitment to good governance.

"We went to the elections with a principle to ensure this country does not condone corruption, to strengthen good governance and focus on economic issues," added Anwar.

As of 4am on Sunday (Nov 20) morning, Pakatan and Muda have a total of 76 seats, followed by Perikatan's 73, Barisan (30), GPS (22), GRS (six), Warisan (three), and PBM (one).
