(KPL) All families (81) in Nakong village, Nong district, Savannakhet have gained access to gravity fed water facilities built with support of 250 million kip (almost US$31,000) from the Poverty Reduction Fund (PRF) of the government.
PRF has provided financial support worth more than 470 million kip to finance the construction of the gravity fed water facilities and a dispensary in Nakong village to ensure that local people have access to safe water and health facilities.
Nakong village is located in the rural area of Nong district. Its population is 442 including 191 females. The village sits on 800 ha.
The construction of the facilities commenced in mid 2013 and was completed early last month.
“Nakong village is among poor communities in Nong district in Savannakhet Province. Several years ago, people lived a difficult life. They lacked basic infrastructure facilities that could help them live a better life. The intervention of PRF in improving basic infrastructure in 2013 has played an important role in improving the livelihoods of local people. People in the village now enjoy year round access to safe water unlike in the past when they had to travel long distances to fetch water from streams. They can also use the water for farming purposes and raising animals thus ensuring that they can generate incomes and lift their families out of poverty,” said Mr Ham Thinsepon.
