Asean Culture and Tourism Fair Officially Launched

 October 1st, 2016  |  06:01 AM  |   780 views

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

The Asean-Korea Centre announced that it is holding the Asean Culture and Tourism Fair 2016', in two different cities this year, in Gwangju today and in Andong on October 2-3, respectively.

"The Asean Culture and Tourism Fair is the one and only cultural festival in Korea where the public can experience unique and diverse cultural performances from 10 Asean member states (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam) in one venue," the centre explained in a press release.

The Asean Culture and Tourism Fair is an annual cultural event launched in 2009 with an aim to enhance mutual understanding between the peoples of Asean and Korea through cultural performances.

"Marking its 8th anniversary this year, the fair will offer a valuable opportunity for the Korean public to experience splendid mask and drum performances of each Asean member country's national/royal performance groups," reads the press release.

In order to maximise the impact of showcasing cultural performances and to attract as many spectators as possible, the event will be held in collaboration with the 2016 Andong International Maskdance Festival and the Gwangju Asia Culture Centre.

Quoted from the release is Kim Young-sun, the Secretary General of the centre, who explained that "while the Korean culture has blossomed across Asean, Asean culture is relatively little known to the Korean people".

"I hope this Asean Culture and Tourism Fair can offer meaningful opportunity for Korean people to feel, savour, and experience the rich and diverse cultures of Asean, to better understand Asean," he added.
