Final of National Musabaqah Al-Quran Reading for Adults

The culmination of the final of the National Musabaqah Al-Quran Reading for Adults was the prize presentation to winners and participants. His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam presented the prizes. The ceremony took place at the Plenary Hall, International Convention Centre in Berakas.

 

 Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by:

 

 -Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Indera Setia Diraja Sahibul Karib Pengiran Anak Haji Idris bin Pengiran Maharaja Lela Pengiran Muda Abdul Kahar, Yang Di-Pertua of Adat Istiadat Negara;

 

 - Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs and members of the Musabaqah Executive Committee.

 

Also in attendance were His Majesty's sons and brother,

 

- His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office;

 

 - His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik;

 

 - And His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah.

 

The recital of Surah Al-Fatihah was led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti.

 

 The Minister of Religious Affairs in his welcoming address touched on this year's Musabaqah theme 'Bertemankan Al-Quran Sepanjang Zaman' or Accompanied by Al-Quran Throughout the Ages. Yang Berhormat said being accompanied by Al-Quran gives the opportunity to gain blessings in the world and Hereafter.

 

While presenting the Musaqah's result, Awang Haji Abd Rajid bin Haji Mohd Salleh, Musabaqah Chief Jury underlined that the reading presentations by participants this year, in general were at a very good level.

 

Qari champion was Awang Muhammad Zul-Hafiz bin Awang Tengah while Qariah champion was Dayangku Fauziah Nadhirah binti Pengiran Haji Jofri.

 

 The event was also enlivened with a special performance by 2 invited special Hafiz and Hafizah, Muhammad Naja Hudia Afifurrahman Agusfian and Nur Syahwa Syakhila Muhammad Sabhan, from the Republic of Indonesia.

 

His Majesty then presented prizes to the winners and participants. Qari champion received a $7,000-cash prize; the Challenge Trophy; an Accompanying Prize; Participation Certificate; 'Tekad Haji' account amounting to $1,500 from Perbadanan Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei, TAIB, Insurans Islam TAIB Holdings Sdn Bhd and Darussalam Holdings Sdn Bhd and a Brunei Woven Cloth sponsored by Syarikat Little Ummi.

 

The first Qari runner-up, Awang Mohammad bin Ali, received cash prize of $5,000 dollars; an Accompanying Prize; Participation Certificate; and 'Tekad Haji' account amounting to one thousand dollars from Perbadanan TAIB, Insurans Islam TAIB Holdings Sdn Bhd and Darussalam Holdings Sdn Bhd.

 

Awang Haji Nasrul Fakhri bin Haji Yahya came in third, receiving $3,000-cash prize; an Accompanying Prize; Participation Certificate; and 'Tekad Haji' account amounting $700 from Perbadanan TAIB, Insurans Islam TAIB Holdings Sdn Bhd and Darussalam Holdings Sdn Bhd.

 

Meanwhile Qariah champion received a $7,000-cash prize; the Challenge Trophy; an Accompanying Prize; Participation Certificate; a Haj Package for first time winners, 'Tekad Haji' account amounting to $1,500 from Perbadanan Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei, TAIB, Insurans Islam TAIB Holdings Sdn Bhd and Darussalam Holdings Sdn Bhd and a Brunei Woven Cloth sponsored by Syarikat Little Ummi.

 

 First Qariah runner up, Dayang Hajah Nurfaezah binti Haji Emran received cash prize of $5,000; an Accompanying Prize; Participation Certificate; and 'Tekad Haji' account amounting to one thousand dollars from Perbadanan TAIB, Insurans Islam TAIB Holdings Sdn Bhd and Darussalam Holdings Sdn Bhd.

 

In third place was Dayang Siti Zahrina binti Haji Abd Wahab who received a $3,000-cash prize; an Accompanying Prize; Participation Certificate; and 'Tekad Haji' account amounting $700 from Perbadanan TAIB, Insurans Islam TAIB Holdings Sdn Bhd and Darussalam Holdings Sdn Bhd.

 

His Majesty also presented souvenirs to the judges and the invited Hafiz and Hafizah. Doa Selamat was read by the State Mufti.

 

The musabaqah which has been organised since six decades ago is part of efforts to make Brunei Darussalam as a Zikir Nation through the mastery and internalisation of Al-Quran reading.
