KOTA KINABALU

KOTA KINABALU (Aug 28): Lahad Datu MP Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi has announced that he is joining Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM).

“I chose to join PBM after scrutinising the party’s constitution which is the basis of its formation and that is fighting for the implementation of autonomy and the rights of the Borneo region as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963,” Mohamaddin, who is also Segama assemblyman said in a press conference today.

Also present at the press conference was PBM president cum Julau MP Datuk Larry Sng.

Mohamaddin, who was Tourism, Arts And Culture Minister in the Pakatan Harapan administration, won Lahad Datu parliamentary seat and Segama state seat under a Parti Warisan ticket. He quit Warisan in October last year and joined Bersatu Sabah only to leave the party seven months later.

With Mohamaddin joining PBM, the party now has four MPs namely Sng in Julau, Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin in Ampang and Stephen Choon in Tebrau.

Meanwhile, Sng said that PBM’s political bureau has agreed to appoint Mohamaddin as PBM’s Sabah liaison chief.

“We have seven divisions in Sabah, Kudat, Papar, Keningau, Tenom, Batu Sapi, Semporna and now Lahad Datu. With Mohamaddin joining PBM, we can now form a new leadership structure for Sabah and register PBM Sabah with RoS,” he added..

To the question on what happened to the previous PBM representative in Sabah, Sng said the individual has been informed of the party’s decision and the person will accept the appointment of Mohamaddin as the party’s state liaison chief.

“That is the decision of the party’s Political Bureau made last week. There was no objection regarding this issue. Sometimes we have to make sacrifices to accommodate and to expand the party,” added Sng.

Mohamaddin said that as the new PBM liaison chief, he will be going down to the ground to recruit more members for the party.

On the subject of him contesting in the 15th general election, Mohamaddin said, “We will cross the bridge once we arrived there.”

In his speech earlier, Mohamaddin said full cooperation will be given to PBM and Parti Kuasa Rakyat so that what is enshrined in the MA63 can be realised.

“This is very important because the implementation of MA63 needs to be done, otherwise it is a breach of agreement, he added.

He believed that the unification of the people’s power from Sabah and Sarawak is the solution to the problem of political stability and can certainly guarantee the well-being of the people of Malaysia, especially in the state of Sabah.
