Brunei U-15 Football Team Finish 6th in UiTM Championship

Brunei Darussalam finished 6th in the 8th Asian Schools Football Under-15 Championship at the UiTM Stadium, Shah Alam in Selangor following a 5-0 whitewash by Malaysia 'B' in the 'fifth and sixth place playoff on Wednesday.

 


Brunei Darussalam have kept their hopes of a top five finish alive after winning 4-3 in penalties against Hong Kong after the tie had ended in a 2-2 draw

 


The Bruneian juniors took the lead in the 34th minute through young talent Md Aisan Aizuddin bin Abdullah Md Aiman but Hong Kong hit back with a quick-fire double from Ma Chun Lok Thomas in the stroke of half-time and So Hok Fai.

 


Brunei Darussalam found an equaliser through their top scorer Muhammad Hadif Aiman bin Haji Adanan in the 55th minute as penalties ensued.

 


Brunei began their Group A campaign with a disastrous 4-0 loss at the hands of Malaysia B before falling to a 3-0 defeat to Thailand.

 


The under-15 schoolboys improved markedly against Indonesia despite trailing 4-0 in the 49th minute.

 


Indonesia ran riot with goals from Dika Erpiansyah Firdaus, M. Fahmi Khul Hadi, Deka Muhammad Toha and Muh Yunus but Brunei, who were staring a third successive defeat, refused to cower to their onslaught.

 


Muhammad Hadif Aiman bin Haji Adanan responded with a 54th minute effort but Muhammad Toha made it 5-1 to the Indonesian juniors in the 61st minute.

 


The Brunei youngster netted his brace in the 69th minute to reduce the deficit as they fell to a 5-2 defeat.

 


Thailand emerged champions after defeating Indonesia 1-0 in the final with Phadungkiat Arkitkarn scoring the only goal of the game.

 


The championship-winning goal-scorer also ended the tournament with the top scorer award.

 


Malaysia finished as second runners-up after thrashing China 6-0 in the third place playoff as the latter settled for fourth.

 


Sri Lanka finished 7th after edging past Hong Kong 1-0 who finished eighth.
