Thai Woman Gets 4 Months in Jail for Overstaying

A Thai woman is serving four months in jail after she pleaded guilty to overstaying in the country and confirmed not being able to pay a fine imposed by the court yesterday.
Nutchanart Thamklang was ordered to serve three months in jail and pay an $800 fine with a default imprisonment term of one month. She entered Brunei on May 15, 2016 and was given a social visit pass valid until September 24, 2016.
Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid heard from the DPP that police raided a residential flat in Jerudong on the afternoon of September 24, 2016 and found the defendant not able to produce her passport.
She was handed over to the immigration who confirmed that she had overstayed and she admitted that she had given her passport to an individual for extension of her pass, and never saw her passport ever since.
DPP Emily Goh represented the Public Prosecutor in the case.
