Young children have the capacity to know how to take care of themselves when the situation calls for it.
This was said during an interview with Akhbar Mohammed, Chairman of The Amazing Race event that was held yesterday at the Ahmad Tajuddin Primary School (SR Ahmad Tajuddin) in Kuala Belait.
The event was held in conjunction with the World's Largest Lesson project in partnership with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the Global Goals for Sustainable Development.
Its guest of honour was Noraipah binti Haji Ismail, a Senior Education Officer from the Programme Implementation and Monitoring Unit under the Department of Schools, Ministry of Education, who also presented prizes to the students.
The Amazing Race, themed 'Quality Education', had students complete tasks in different stations around the school in groups comprising students from Year 1 to Year 5, aged between seven and 10 years.
He noted that the event aimed to provide participating students an opportunity to interact with peers from other classrooms or levels.
"We observed that most of the students naturally interacted with each other and took care of one another," said the chairman, adding that adults tend to fear for their children because of how young they still are or that they might get hurt while engaging in certain tasks, but assured them that it is all in their heads and that children actually know how to take care of themselves.
