Message In Conjunction With International Women's Day 2022

Brunei Darussalam fully recognises the importance of the role of women in the socio-economic development of the country while acknowledging that the equality of rights and empowerment of women, in addition to being a fundamental human right, is essential for women's progress. The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports emphasised the matter in a message on the occasion of International Women's Day 2022.

 

Yang Berhormat Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin said the country remains committed to the development of all sectors as embodied in Wawasan Brunei 2035. According to Yang Berhormat, the latest statistics showed more than 55 percent of women aged 15 to 65 years old are part of the workforce that contributes to national development.

 

 The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports also said with the existence of environmental groups and associations led and championed by women has raised awareness to the public on the importance of mitigating the impacts of climate change.

 

Touching on women's achievements in various aspects; the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports stressed the role and contribution of women in Brunei Darussalam is important for socio-economic development and the preservation of peace and security. The theme of this year's International Women's Day is "Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow".
