KOTA SAMARAHAN

KOTA SAMARAHAN: The decomposing bodies of an elderly couple were discovered inside their locked house at Kampung Mang yesterday.

The two were identified by police as Junat Usai, 73, and his wife Buang Paiie, 70.

Samarahan district police chief DSP Lee Chong Chern, who confirmed receiving a report on the deaths, said initial investigation found no signs of foul play.

“The couple was last seen alive on Monday before being discovered in a decomposing state by villagers inside their house. A police team was despatched to the scene and found the house was locked from the inside, with no apparent physical injuries on the two bodies,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Lee added the bodies had been sent to the Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching for a scheduled postmortem to determine cause of death. The case has been classified as sudden death pending the outcome of the postmortem.

In a separate incident, a woman from Sadong Jaya was killed after the motorcycle she was travelling on collided with another motorcycle here on Wednesday.

The deceased, identified as 53-year-old Menganie Sabni of Kampung Jemukan Tengah, was travelling with her husband when the incident occurred near a mall around 8.30pm. They are said to have been involved in a collision with another couple travelling on a motorcycle, which resulted in all four victims being thrown onto the road.

The crash claimed Menganie’s life but left her husband with only minor injuries, while also causing the 49-year-old male on the second motorcycle to sustain a broken leg. The latter’s wife, meanwhile, was not hurt in the incident.
