Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen has urged the government to quickly assist storm victims at Moyan, Batu Kawah here.

Chong made this call following an incident that occurred in the area yesterday evening where the victims’ house roofs were blown off by strong winds.

Chong, who visited the storm victims this morning before flying to Kuala Lumpur to attend Parliament sitting, said there are altogether 26 families who suffered damages to their house roofs as a result of the storm.

“I will allocate the Member of Parliament’s allocation to them to help in the repair of their roofs and some furniture.

“At the same time, I also urge the government to take swift response to help these victims,” the Stampin MP said in a statement.

Chong said that most of the victims are from the low-income group and require financial aid to assist them.
