KOTA KINABALU

The Sabah Health Department is aware of Omicron and is closely monitoring reports on the new Covid-19 variant, especially at the state’s entry points.

Its director, Datuk Dr Rose Mudin, also said random sampling of blood of those Covid-19 positive is being done to detect the new variant.

“So far no Omicron cases have been detected in Sabah. However, we are monitoring it closely especially at points of entry and we also monitoring the variant by random sampling of blood of those positive.

“I want to remind the public that the prevention of new variant is the same. Follow all SOPs by wearing mask, not touching each other and avoid crowded place. I think we still can control the situation very well,” she said.

According to Dr Rose Nani, the compliance of SOPs is very important to stop the transmission.

The World Health Organization has warned that the Omicron variant poses a “very high” risk globally, while the federal government will put its plans to move into the endamic phase on hold due to the development.
