BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
Universiti slam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) is currently hosting an international seminar on Halalan Tayyiban products and services, in collaboration with the Global Halal Industry Department (GRID) and the Energy and Industry Department at the Prime Minister's Office.
The Minister of Energy and Industry at the Prime Minister's Office, Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Awang Haji Mohammad Yasmin bin Haji Umar, was present yesterday to officiate at the launching of the seminar headlined, 'Transcending Borders and Addressing Challenges in the Halalan Tayyiban Industry'.
Speaking in her capacity as the co-chairperson of the organising committee, Dr Hajah Mas Nooraini binti Haji Mohiddin, Dean of the Faculty
of Shariall and Law at UNISSA, said that among the main goals of the seminar is to have both UN1SSA and GH1D established as centres of research in the global Halalan Tayyibafl industry.
"The seminar also aims to make Brunei Darussalam as a one-stop research centre, offering a balanced, multi-faceted and comprehensive research on Halal Tayyiban," she said. "The Halal industry has gained international prominence and is no longer seen as the concern of Muslim nations only.
"Halal is always mentioned and discussed, but it is very rarely attached to the word Tayyiban (Hygiene).
"It is hoped that this seminar will increase more understanding and awareness of the Halalail Tayyiban concept."
Later, the minister launched a book titled, 'Brunei Darussalam Guidelines for the Manufacturing and Handling of Halal Cosmetic Products'.
This was followed by a keynote speech on 'Halalan Tayyiban: Its Significance to Muslims', by Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Japar bin Haji Mat Dain @ Maidin, the Deputy State Mufti.
His keynote touched on the issue of `Halalan Tayyiban' in food, drinks and products consumed by Muslims, in accordance to the principles laid out in the Al-Quran and Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
"There are some people who disregard the idea of Halalan Tayyiban, while some take it very seriously," he said.
As Muslims, we need to ensure the Halal status of a product, as much as its quality, for the good of our physical and mental health."
A total of 25 speakers from Brunei, Malaysia, Indonesia and Algeria will present their working papers during the two-day seminar.
